RealTime DC to start work on wireless cask management system at new John Dewar’s site

In January 2009, RealTime DC will be implementing the wireless cask management system in the first two warehouses at John Dewar & Sons new site in South Lanarkshire. John Dewar & Sons Limited plans to develop the site to accommodate bonded warehouses capable of housing more than a million casks. RealTime has worked with John Dewars on the implementation of the wireless cask management system in six other warehouses at the London Road site in Glasgow, as well as the Bottling Plant and Finished Goods at the same site.

Due to the fire risk in the warehouses the solution that RealTime have implemented needed to operate within European regulations governing ATmosphere EXplosives (ATEX). AP300 wireless access points have been installed in ATEX1 approved enclosures to ensure that these regulations are adhered to.  John Dewars are using ATEX MC9000 mobile computers so that employees have access to check cask information whilst moving around. The wireless solution that has been used at Dewars means that they are compliant with health and safety laws that demand a cable-free environment in the warehouses.
